Modern “can’t hum along or tap your toes” classical for traditional instruments ensemble. Flute, clarinet, violin, cello, pianos on these, last work adds a soprano. In general I disliked the first piece 1-6, sorta liked the 2nd piece 7-10, liked the 3rd piece 11-13, sorta liked 14-16, sorta disliked 17-23. The performer is "Continuum", an ensemble that’s been playing in various forms since 1966, currently directed by Cheryl Seltzer & Joel Sachs. The composer is Roberto Sierra, and "Turner" is the name of one of the works, not of anyone involved.
1. Skittery pizzicato & squeaky strings, piano rumbling, dies with a whimper.
2. fast panicky with quiet interludes
.nice and calm but very quiet
.mystery
.dissonant, even a couple different rhythms crossing, mellows out
.like chasing a bunch of pigeons off the ground
.moderately loud, then quiet
.Nice violins
.Nice minimal repetition and melodic bits
.Busy in a good way.
.Pianos go in & out of sync
.Starts off pretty, then falls apart. Picks back up and goes to la-la-land… Tricky!
.Bright, jittery
.Musical ADHD.
.Relatively calm at first, then indigestion sets in
16. Little bird in danger
.singer given different music from rest of ensemble
.happy(?) song
.relatively melodic, calming, and I actually like it.
.Voice takes lead. Haunted house?
.Akin to “ancient music”
.interesting, restrained
.like a hunting song
