MICHAEL MUSILLAMI TRIO + MARK FELDMAN: The Treatment
Playscape, 2007
MODERN JAZZ – Musillami’s warm, hollow-body guitar sound sneaks and creeps across this vibrant set, his trio joined by ace improvising violinist Feldman (also a member of John Abercrombie’s current group). The music is accessible but full of verve, showing a lot of energy and creativity without getting wild. Musillami’s relaxed, cleanly inventive style fits nicely with Feldman’s bright, pouncing violin. A very fine set; recommended.
All worth a spin. Fo’s Picks: 2, 4, 5
1. 09:53 – quiet intro, flowing tune: breezy violin, insistent bass, sneaky guitar
2. 07:52 – urgent riff, guitar/bass dialogue & shifty solo, casual/scribbly violin
3. 08:43 – laid-back ballad: pretty violin and introspective guitar
4. 11:19 – cool sneaky themes, pitter-patter drums; nifty violin & guitar work
5. 08:43 – quick pulsing, almost spy music: nice bass & guitar, flying violin
6. 13:02 – slow, calm start; little guitar/bass coils, then stark violin takes off into rolling groove; tasty drum solo, and everybody chugs away…
