New-ish music compilation from the small island, Iceland.
Most bands are (as yet) little known here, though Gus Gus and
Mum contribute also.
** 1. Plodding, rough; melodic vocals with a slightly berserk
edge
** 2. Slightly Feist-y semi-squawking vocal over slow acoustic
blues
** 3. Quiet and slow indie folk with funny self-improvement
lyrics; BUT multiple "fucked-up"s
*** 4. Precious, delicate, pretty, as Mum can be
*** 5. Bouncy yet laid-back disco number from Gus Gus; catchy
too
*** 6. Raw, yet catchy punk/shred rock in the vein of Mclusky
*** 7. Keening, desperate, as befits a song named after a film of
the same name that was also (but way more so) desperate and
passionate
** 8. Twee pop? By a group called Seabear? No way.
* 9. Verging on parodic both musically and lyrically
* 10. Driving pop, sort of generic but for the ironic lyrics
*** 11. Sort of unhinged post-punk, circa 1981; female vocals
crying/baying over teased guitar; weird synth screen completes
the arrangement
* 12. Indie power ballad
*** 13. Nice hook, builds nicely, shrieky organ near end is cool
** 14. Indie pop metal; the sax accents provide levity
** 15. Some cool guitar riffing but ridiculous lyrics
*** 16. Mutant/old skool hip hop (with sax) from Iceland? No
way that MC is Icelandic, tho’
** 17. Imitation Buzzcocks on the verses; the choruses not as
good
