Schande – I Scored An Ocean Reviewed by Witz
Vocally driven female indie rock. Jen Chochinov is the brains (and voice) behind Schande, the San Francisco based indie rock quartet. Having previous experience with semi-successful bands, Jen developed Schande’s sound while living in England and brought it back with her to the States. Her soft, insistent vocals drive the album, and the British garage rock instrumentals back her to create a mixture of frenetic energy and soothing stylings. (sounds like, The Silversun Pickups meet The Breeders).
FCC CLEAN
*1) Grungy guitars, melodic catchy vocals. Dark edged. (2:47)
2) Medium paced, simple instrumental work, melodious vocals. (1:54)
**3) Cathy and quick with a great chorus. Same slightly hollow vocal sound. (3:12)
4) Less distortion, slower. Nice vocal duet on chorus. (2:05)
5) Medium paced, fairly instrumental. Somewhat airy tone. (3:21)
6) Slow minimalistic beginning. Airy vocals. Gets harder at end. (3:31)
7) Starts fast and builds to vocals and distorted guitars. Dark and brooding. (2:38)
**8) Poppier, more organized feel. Nice harmonies and changes. (3:08)
9) Rilo Kiley vocally, Explosions In the Sky instrumentally. (3:44)
10) Extended song similar to others, but rolled into one. Starts calm and brooding and builds up to frantic, explosive ending. (6:06)
