Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover
Experimental, strained voice, freak pop from Montreal. This is Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, Swan Lake and Frog Eyes and this share similarities with what I've heard of those bands. Might be appreciated by Animal Collective fans. This isn't quite for me, but I can see the appeal of it.
-Adrian FCC: 1, 4
My picks: 1 (FCC), 2, 5, 8, 9
1. FCC. fast. strong guitar, block piano and, later, glockenspiel.
2. long (6:00) med-slow. acoustic guitar and melodica under vocals. builds in instrumentation and intensity later in the song
3. mid tempo. dark waltz w/ guitars, glockenspiel and keyboards. slow-down/ break-down in the middle.
4. FCC. mid tempo. muted, chunky guitar and almost fugal vocal parts. then drums and more instrumentation later.
5. med-slow. distorted guitars with drums and some keys. More melodic vocals than some tracks.
6. mid tempo. quiet. female vocals in addition to Spencer's. Reminds me a bit of atonal classical music at times.
7. long (6:46). med-slow, waltz time. starts w/ piano, quietly. builds later.
8. mid tempo. starts quietly with piano and autoharp. builds up till drums (w/ nice rhythm) add in.
9. long (6:07). mid tempo. alternates jaunty and smoother rhythmic sections. nice background vocals and guitar part.
10. mid-tempo. ringing high-pitched background and low vocals. fake endings near the end--actually ends 0:06 fade out
11. mid-tempo. starts fairly consonantly but turns to dissonance later. alternates between the two.
12. med-slow. acoustic guitar. f vocals also. Almost like a lullaby.
