Modern classical: Mostly solo piano, with small chamber groups performing tracks 7 and 9. Tonal work, a very 'classical' feel with ear-pleasing melodies on most of the tracks. (A gut-testing exception is #9.) Piano performed by Bay Area (and New Albion) fave Sarah Cahill.
-6: The title suite, with moods pretty much outlined by the titles. Very melodic, soundtrack-y, bordering on new age.
- Sneaky mid/fast riff
- Autumnal feel, light and fluttering. Parts of the melody could be mistaken for Godfather outtakes.
- Light playing, heavy mood.
- Really slow
- Mysterious and deep; strong mid/fast movement.
- Jazzy, ragtime. Thick pulse.
- Chamber combo. Sad and pastoral, then a faster dramatic segment. Some almost jazzy clarinet turns, and a strong lush violin climax.
- Delicate and downcast.
- Microtonal, for a very "off" sound distorting an otherwise pleasant flute melody. (29-note scale; see liner notes). Decent amount of tension and drama. The question is whether you can take the microtones.
- Dramatic tones. Later: lighter, quieter, and fleet
