Double live album from the very talented Swedish "progressive death metal" band. They've added a keyboardist to make them a bit more 70's sounding. Although the Death Metal parts are still there - especially in Mr. Ã…kerfeldt's vocals. Plus, lots of drunken English 'edbangers yelling during the quiet parts.
Disc I
(((((1))))) Intro/sample by Popol Vuh (!), then heavy yet melodic DM with nice guitars and keyboard fills & banter.
(((2))) Jagged, rather heavy DM, drags on far too long.
(((3))) (FCC "fucking" in intro). Mid-paced, steady and bombastic shifting
over to a moody breakdown. Not bad. (Stage banter: "This has lyrics that are absolute Black Metal nonsense.")
((((4)))) Slow-ish but picks up with a really good main riff and the melodic
breakdowns are nice, too.
((((5)))) (FCC in outro:"shut the fuck up") Very mellow intro then
mid-paced metallic prog, sounds like Camel crossed with modern metal.
(((6))) So-so riffs & structure, the little legatos/flourishes are nice
though.
Disc II
((((1)))) Straight up 70's prog with airy vocals, nice solos and a very
strong influence from Camel.
(((2))) (FCC laced banter from 12:40-18:59, you can fade it out at that point) Strong main riff with more Death Metal mixed with the prog. Vox are
little too murky, tho'.
((((3)))) (Song ends a 6:46, rest is banter filed with FCCs). Heavy & thick riffage, really big sound and lots of interesting patterns. Their "hit" song.
