Varying indie work-- a compilation of songs of VERY varying quality (and style). And I even have to qualify that statement because what is ‘good’ and what is ‘not good’ depends entirely on what criteria you use and who you are. I am going to use my own personal criteria and I hope you find that useful. This is basically a cornucopia of different types of indie and alternative music, and many of the artists are ‘hip’ and well-known, like you’ve seen them at South-by-Southwest. Descriptions below would be more helpful. Rec: 2, 10, 11, 12
starts off interesting and whimsical but the chorus only gets a B-, slightly emo, nice coda ending
short piece by Neko Case, my-t-fine.
silly thing about the recession and getting money back on taxes, ironic, nice little bubblegum pop, play with Magnetic Fields if you must
not my thing, but interesting guitar work
FCC ‘shit’ rap piece, more silly than witty, words about being in the projects, etc.
dumb baritone chanting to start, the thing seems a bit Waits-ish, but it in fact is everyone’s favorite, Man Man. OK, I can respect this
I don’t like the lyrics, seems like a basic alt-folk piece. Might have the ‘classic’ thing going.
FCC ‘shit’ I do like this, good alt.country.rock, interesting last minute, for sure
FCC ‘fucked’
interesting synth pop piece with horns, female vocals
instrumental ornate synth bells and organic celestial like translating some of Ed Ka-spel’s work into a bit more indie pop, gets really noisy and climactic at end
starts with more of the same then a cool, long dance piece, Giorgio Moroder?, that sort of faux-whispered vocal stuff
