ARMEN DONELIAN TRIO: Oasis
Sunnyside, 2008
MODERN JAZZ – Lyrical, moody mainstream jazz that takes a few chances under the placid surface. Donelian’s trio is elegant and has a nice sound, but several tracks keep going well beyond their natural end points. Solid but not great; somewhat stronger in the second half.

2. 7:57 – light stroll: piano arcs gracefully, earthy bass, skittery drums

4. 7:11 – upbeat stroll: tripping piano over pleasant groove, good solos
5. 5:14 – fragile melody; tenuous piano solo goes from dissonance to sadness
