This CD starts with some so-so nueva-folk but around the 5th track they betray themselves into being something early Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine decided to give birth to, hose off with a shower massage, then take the stuff clogged in the hair filter and rub it all over the cd. The umbilical chord hangs on this creation the whole way through, until track 12 when I am reminded of early Bowie, singing about space travelers, and just strumming the guitar like we all should, dammit.
1) folkie (dare I say anti-folk), simple vocal sing/song with a very slight Celtic twang
2) very folky, Seals and Crofts channeling Cobain, midway it turns rockin
3) brief, just electric guitar with singer/songwriter, somber and reflective
4) acoustic guitar lead folk rock
5) sonic youth’ish bending rock
6) upbeat pop, with “bendy”-isms so trademarked by My Bloody Valentine
7) absolutely beautiful layers of drone and feedback, melodic yet dissonant, soothing, best track
8) fades out of lovely drone into a noisey soundbed with submerged, echoey female vocls
9) brief, noise tones, pretty
10) pretty standard indie rock song
11) Indian Tambora lends the drone, echoey guitars and driving drum beat, borders on noise rock with soaring synth and searing guitar but when the lyrics come in the music makes way but things get crazier and weirder…thank god for kzsu!!
12) folkie comes back with the guitar, midway things get all rocking and even a 2/4 punk theme (??), but ends on the fokie rock deal
16) epic rock that ends with a nice noise bed, then ends completely at 10:27 remang, the (who’da thumk the hidden track was still alive!), then at 8:49 remaining a lovely guitar strumming drone that would make the Terrastock folks get a woodie (if they still have working penises)
