FUCK THE FACTS - "Disgorge Mexico" CD (Relapse)
A combination of metalcore, grindcore and straight metal all with hardcore ideas. The band is from Ottawa, Canada and this is their 9th full length release since 1998. The music has a progressive metal feel but does that by mixing grindcore and metalcore. Unique female vocals that aren't easy to understand. Songs rarely sit still but don't lose their heaviness because of it.
1. Short 32 second opener. Crams lots of ideas in those 32 seconds. Lyrics are tremendous and often political.
2. A few too many high pitched guitar sounds and somewhat of a normal discordant metalcore breakdown.
**3. Melodic metal intro into more melodic sounds with vocals. Then all hell breaks loose with quick changes including a simple breakdown.
**4. Speedy, more straight forward metal. Not really grindcore or death metal. Ends slow with lots of high pitched guitar.
5. Nice guitar tone that could be PELICAN. The track stays more melodic but is metal. Catchy.
6. Clean guitar arpeggios that remind me of METALLICA.
**7. Quick, more straight forward with a number of melodic sections. Some surprising changes. Progressive metal. Lyrics in French.
8. Boogie rock beginning? Rock-n-roll but heavy.
9. Busy and messy and somewhat chaotic. Very fast at times. Track seems to drag with ideas repeated too often.
10. One of the longer tracks. Lots of double bass drum. Medium paced and while there are lots of changes nothing is too complex. Quiet, odd interlude into 80s sounding melodic metal section.
**11. The longest track at over 9 minutes. Clean, not heavy, late 80s sounding metal intro. Wow, lots of different sounds (lots of them catchy and melodic) but all pieced together perfectly. Multiple breakdowns including one that is mostly bass guitar.
12. Very quiet beginning into slow heaviness.
13. Slight gallop and grindcore. Straight forward, fast and heavy. Simple breakdown that sounds stiff.
14. Sounds of a radio station changing stations. Into speedy grindcore. Quickly turns into static noise.
Good stuff -mph
