Seriously demented dub from Brazil. All tracks start with a lot of random electronica for quite a period of time, and I think they’d have been better without them – but they’ll fit in nicely with quite a few shows, and once they get going, the dub is pretty wild. I wish the last track wasn’t one of those “hidden track” things – the vocal part at the end is pretty breathtaking, and the sitar bit is pretty cool, too.
No FCCs. I like 3, 5, 7 and esp. 4 best.
1. 3:50 **odd quasi-industrial noises for first 50 secs, with beat slow impinging, finally a very downtempo dub skank with squeeps. Ends with ho ho hos.
2. 4:41 **bit of processed voice, stoned sounding horns, downtempo drum and bass skank. Considerable randomocity.
3. 4:24 ***midtempo skank with lots of syndrum. Snips of vocals. Fades to occasional random noises for last several seconds.
4. 4:48 ****deconstructed skank, backmasking… very slow dub skank with cowboy-style harmonica. Pretty damn weird!
5. 5:07 ***random clangs and whooshes for a full minute, then horns, and finally a groovy sort of samba bubble.
6. 3:51 **soft hand percussion instruments, gradually adding on structure and bits of other instruments.
7. 4:10 ***bit of processed voice, echos, downtempo dub skank that craps out and comes back as a cow. I swear.
8. 4:22 **very low electronics for a few seconds, and video game noises, random musical bits, finally another downtempo skank – groovy, though.
9. 4:36 *loony vocal snippets and electronics, deconstructed skank where all the pieces rarely come together at once, very sparse.
10. 8:55 *alarm clock for several seconds, then random squeeps, gets a cobbled together beat after about 2.5 minutes. Sitar – pretty cool. Fades about 3 minutes from the end. Silence for 30 seconds or so, then amazing vocal harmonies praising Rastafari. As a track for the radio it’s pretty dicey, but various of the sections are really cool.
