Modern classical music, cello/piano duets.
1,2 -- by David Sanford, action-packed
3,4,5 -- Sonata by Samuel Barber, quite 'classical' sounding
6,7,8,9 -- Elliott Carter. More abstract but not over the edge
10,11,12,13 -- Augusta Read Thomas. Quite modern.
1,2-- An action-packed piece: tense, hard piano and stiff, vicious cello. Part 2 starts quiet, but both get raucous.
3- Dramatic, sweeping. Fast-paced, very "classical" feeling. Touches of slow, dark romance in the middle.
4- Sad. Super perky fast segment in the middle, though.
5- A wandering tunefulness, mostly mid/fast. Rumbly intro. Grumpily dramatic, satisfying ending.
6- Prickly clockwork piano gives way to bold, sweeping cello
7- Percolating, sunny.
8- A mid/fast moroseness, forceful
9- Busy; lots of quick, criss-crossing lines. Gets vicious but ends surprisingly quietly
10- Spiky fast. Poking piano; plucky cello
11- Slow, floating, a little unsettling. Cobwebs.
12- Snappy, fast
13- Slow, questioning. Ends on an extremely high, glassy note (and 13 seconds of silence).
