Gorgeous, warm, lush, melodic folk. This is apparently a re-release of a 2006 debut recording. Try Me Bicycle is so sensibly melodic, pretty, subdued, tender here. They have the vibe of Grizzly Bear, without the electronics and experimentation, the scope of Mark Kozelek , a style similar to the Fleet Foxes, but with more folky vocals. Vocals sound familiar, but I can’t put my finger on what it sounds like. Music to warm your day, and will be wonderful to let it under your skin. Definitely recommended. No FCC violations noticed.
1. Lush folk, rich vocals, beautiful violin and piano outro (4:25)
*2. Jangly acoustic guitar builds to a hauntingly sweet, lush crescendo, piano solo(4:28)
3. Guitar parts are augmented by beautiful vocals and backup vocals(2:48)
*4. Gorgeous guitar hook, poppy chorus/outro, transitions into 5(3:39)
5. Experimentation with time, backup vox, backing guitar, very relaxed, lazy track, executed well, piano is all over the place(4:55)
6. Almost a ragtime-bluesy piano intro, jazzy feel, really interesting track with dabbling in many different styles-violin has a country feel to it (2:23)
7. Fast finger-picking, about a woman who marries someone she shouldn’t have about a “Ruby Brown” character (2:30)
8. Solemn, loungey piano opening, darkest, most menacing song on album (2:48)
9. Prominent violin, vocals (4:38)
*10. Slow piano ballad, affecting piano part, builds up to a lush, but restrained climax(5:02)
11. Upbeat number, summery, warm (5:00)
12. Kind of sappy chords, about diaries, stories, minimalistic piano piece is layered by violin(4:10)
