This should probably be filed as "Marty's Garage," as I think that was meant to be the name of this one-off project, but I'm worried no one will find it again if I key it that way ...
From 1983, a mix of free-jazz tracks from different eras, all with Buell Neidlinger on the bass.
Side 1 (tracks 1 to 4) were recorded in Krystall's garage, literally, or in Don Preston's basement (Preston being the keyboardist in the Mothers of Invention for a time). These recordings date from 1971 or 1973.
Track 5 is Cecil Taylor's quartet, recorded in 1961 in New York: Cecil (piano), Neidlinger (bass), Denis Charles (drums), and Archie Shepp (sax). Side note - some of Cecil's work around that time came out on albums with Neidlinger listed as the leader.
Track 6 is a duet of just Neidlinger and Archie Shepp, recorded in 1960 in NYC.
Track 7 has no recording credit but looks like it's from the same Krystall/Preston sessions.
Interesting slice of history, a very nice find in our vinyl library.
