Long running (as in since 1979) British Heavy Metal band. One of the contemporaries of ‘Maiden and Motorhead who’s career has been up and down but here this is a somewhat up point in places. Clear, soaring vocals, clean (but not lifeless) production and some very epic heavy f’n metal and a few parking lot rockers, the latter of which is more miss than hit. Overall worthy for the couple of real good tunes.

((((1)))) Very nice mid-pace charge with a “getting medieval on yr ass” vibe. Not so sure about the punctuated keyboards but other wise good riffin’, very good singing.
(((2)) So-so very 80’s hard rock. Biff sings it well but it just reeks of “we really wanna be on MTV” with AC/DC reject.
(((((3))))) Cheesy intro but afterwards, DAMN! This is quintessential Saxon – tight riffs, ace solos and solid drumming. The power AND the glory!
((4)) Short acoustic ballad
(((5))) Modern power metal that kinda works. Cliched as hell but Saxon can get away with this whereas Dragonforce or Rhapsody…
((6)) Every “metal” song on the radio in 1988, too much “white boy blues” mixed with bad power chords.
((7)) OK riff, clunky vocals, lyrics AND pinch harmonic excess. Stop it.
(((8))) Guitar noodling interlude.
((9)) Another mediocre at best ballad. Dokken called and wants their meal ticket back.
(((10))) Good vocals but that main riff has got to go. Paul Quinn shouldn’t lower himself to ripping of Zakk Wylde. So sad.
(((11))) Nice, rockin’ tune until they get that horrid Sunset Strip chorus.
(((12))) Decent mid-tempo rocker and really good vocals but again too many pinch harmonics and fluff rock excess.
((13)) Decent slide guitar but really you don’t’ listen to old NWOBHM bands for the friggin’ blues, man!
