Blackend Heavy Metal from Norway tuned really low with a big-ass production. This one takes a few spins to get used to as these aren’t exactly the strongest set of tunes Satryr & Frost have put down. That said, this has some interesting moments and Satyr’s voice is top notch and the riffing is pretty strong.
((((1))) Burrowing riffs, rockin’ tempo, the tempo shifts are a little awkward at first but generally work well.
(((2))) Sharp riffs, rock n’ roll-ish modern metal, drags on too long, though.
((3)) Odd-metered riffing that dangerously borders to close to the slickness of Lamb of God or even nu-meddle. Vocals & drums are fine, though.
((((4)))) Celtic Frost-y tone, black/thrash tempo, with Frost (the drummer) battering the skins. Almost awesome but just almost…
(((5))) Spacious. pretty good riff, downtuned pre-chorus, very basic drumming.
((6)) Slowly trudging, melted down Slayer riffs mixed with a bunch of ideas from the last few Satyricon albums. Nothing exciting.
(((7)))) Another Celtic Frost-y riff which promises much but falls kinda flat overall. Left the CF riffs to Darkthrone & Gallhammer.
(((8))) Doomy, “necro-riffage” sung “en Norsk”, the problem here is the general lifelessness of the repetition. Many of done this before (see Faustcoven, Helrunar) but somehow Satyricon can’t pull it off.
