Free jazz trio w/violin, the final live performance of this landmark group (violinist Leroy Jenkins died in 2007). Very nice stuff that shows respect for space but also gets into hard-driven improvising. The first three tracks are compositions, with long spaces where one or two members sit out. The last two are improvs that show off some nice group communicating.
- Cool, knotty bass solo, then an airy, light violin melody that gets into some high-note soloing. A casual pace that gives space for some nice violin work.
- Sour-toned bass and violin duetting, gets involved and tangly.
- Scratchy, squeaky violin played fast. Regal horn tones (synth, I think). A patient bowed-bass solo. The last section features reverent tones on the chiramia, a wind instrument that sounds a little like an oboe(?), with some drum and synth accompaniment, grand and sprawling.
- Cool pecking and popping from the strings, and some keyboard splashes. Drums supply an earthy beat later; then it all builds into a blurry frenzy with vicious violin sawing.
- A tense backdrop for some melodic, free-spirit violin improvising.
