Fever Ray is the solo project of The Knife’s Karin Dreijer Andersson. Equal parts haunting, cinematic and beautiful, the electronic music paints eerie pictures of dreamlike landscape. The vocals are heavily processed and it sounds like two or more people of different genders. The dark tones are parceled over slow, methodical beats. Dark music for people who don’t like dark music. Ditto for industrial and minimalist music, especially the stand out lead track.
No FCCs. Play any and all tracks.
For fans of: music that doesn’t sound like other music.
***1. (3:50) Droning, haunting yet irresistibly engaging. Deep and high vocals. My favorite new song this year.
2. (4:31) Atmospheric notes with high vocals adding keys halfway in.
3. (3:45) Mixed processed vocals over sparse arrangement of bleeps and held notes.
**4. (5:10) An odd compilation of stories and daydreams over a steady beat.
5. (4:23) Clap beats and notes sounding like dripping water speed up as high and then low vocals enter.
6. (5:40) Deep bass intones an evocative beat and tweaked deep vocals drone in between bleeps.
**7. (3:59) Xylophone tone notes with looping overdubbed vocals that accentuate the temporal theme.
8. (4:20) High pitched vocals over clapping beats and waves of synthes.
9. (5:40) Reverberating beats and guitar samples with sweet-toned more natural vocals.
10. (6:48) A multi-layered symphony of synthesizers, beats and electronic animal sounds for 3 ½ minutes before the vocals come in then disappear again into the jungle of sound.
