Lots of influences here from the Oakland-based band including metal, punk, but mostly high school rock ‘n’ roll stylings. A lot of Ramones and Sha Na Na sounds, but also fairly individual style. Some fun stuff. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10.
1. (4:44) Mid. Crazy percussion, carnival intro, then gets rocking. Vocals back in the mix. Guitar, drums predominate. Quiet ending with vocals and guitar.
2. *(2:26) Mid. Kind of ’70’s pop / classic rock. Guitar solo, backing vocals. Crying baby at end (what the hell??) Too short.
3. (4:03) Mid. Keyboards predominate, high-pitched vocals. High school rock a la Ramones. Dramatic change with 2:46 remaining. Plodding beat. Another change picks up the beat.
4. *(2:18) Mid / Fast. Total high school rocking, drive-in delectableness.
5. *(3:26) Mid / Fast. Driving beat, guitar-heavy, drum-driven. Kick-ass guitar solo. Tongue-in-cheek lyrics?
6. (2:29) Mid / Fast. A bit of Louis XIV, some Beatles. Disjointed, alternating tempos, interesting though.
7. (3:49) Fast. ’80’s guitar soloing, big sound, pounding drums. Punk, heavy metal noodlings. Big guitar solo at end.
8. *(3:31) Mid. Pop rock. Backing vocals behind the straight-forward r’n’r. Song about the singer getting rid of everything in his life and questioning himself.
9. *(1:51) Mid. Ringing bells and barking dog, bizarre and beautiful. Kazoo and percussion party. High-pitched vocal delivery.
10. *(2:30) Mid / Fast. Juke box jubilee. Fun and fast.
11. (3:05) Mid. Super poppy, bubblegum rock. Quite Brit pop. Upbeat and danceable.
12. (8:14) Slow / Mid. Two songs in one. First ends with 4:35 remaining. Second starts with 3:05 remaining. First song: more high school rock. Older, bluesy Rolling Stones sound. Pacing beat. Second song: lo-fi, guitar and percussion-based. Bluesy with background vocals.
