Upsilon Acrux- Radian Futura (Cuneiform Records)
Amazing chaotic yet melodic upbeat instrumental math rock. As their sixth release, the album has all the speed and energy of a young debut. The tracks are explosive as the musicians show off their awesome technical skill. Highly abstract and loaded with moogs and jumpy guitar and bass lines. Wilder than King Crimson and more melodic than Magma. Give this thought provoking punk with elements of prog-rock a try. The Cuneiform Records’ review is fairly straight on. FCC: CLEAN. PICKS: 1, 4 & 3
***1. Opens with old violins. Most melodic and cheery with a bouncy moog and bass emphasis. Incredible drum work! Urgent and very start-stoppish. 5:10
2. Sporadic drums but more dissonant and darker than the previous track. 6:12
*3. Moog and guitar lines wrapping around each other in an ordered chaos. 3:32
**4. Nature soundsish intro. Slower pace with wizzing synths and playful guitar. Picks up speed a minute in. Great poppy and mellow track. 2:38
5. Epicly long. A constant bouncing back and forth. 28:21
6. Purely synth and electronic drum kit. Great for a quick pyschedelic punk showcase. Last 10 seconds are silence. 1:17
