Italian Melodic & Black Metal with a lot of melancholic, modern progressive rock parts. All sung in Italiano. Mostly above par but the super melodic parts take awhile to get used to. In the realm of Enslaved, Agalloch, Amesoeurs, current era-Katatonia & Amorphis (in the “rock parts” anyway). Very different and a good change of pace from the usual blast beats, blasphemy & bestial terror (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I ‘spose the band is pronounced “Janus”. Just spelled all ancient and Roman-y.
((((1)))) Fast & sharp with a mellow & melancholic break around 2:27 slows down even more so after the little solo then gets a bit proggy not far from current Enslaved & Agalloch.
(((2))) Melodic, outward sounding metalish modern rock in Italiano. Around 3:50 strides back to Black Metal with proggy vs. speedy tempos & back to the rock stuff.
(((3))) Spacey keyboards, tons of Arabic scales & deep vs. occasionally whispered vocals, noodly & slow prog fusion guitar. Kinda boring.
((((((4)))))) Great dark ambient interlude. Very similar a Dario Argento soundtrack.
((((((5))))) Good ‘ol bombastic, fast Black Metal with lots of stop/starts. Very catchy vocals even if it's in “grim Italian”.
((6)) Slow ballady mixing with emotive & odd rock + black metal vocals. Weird.
(((((7))))) Mellow intro, slowly gets louder with metallish rock sounds, @ 3:29 becomes Black Metal again then closes with an epic “post-rock”-ish drift. Like a schizoid Agalloch. Interesting stuff.
