Canadian folk with female vocals and a strong pop sensibility. This album is mostly introspective, deadpan, and sad (“I am just a Tuesday in a world of Friday nights.”) She has a pretty voice with a little bit of a rough edge; most tracks feature vocals at the front of the mix. All the songs on here are pretty unique from one another and radio friendly in length, so give it a go. There’s something about listening to this kind of music in autumn. Decent. No FCCs.
*1. Poppy. Accordion, upbeat rhythmic guitar strums, warm backing vocals and some nice moments with minor key accordion and backing vocals. (3:32)
*2. More of a downer here with lush textures accentuate the folk music, trombone, cello, accordion give this track a sense of majesty. (3:29)
3. Mandolin, simplistic guitar, assertive vocals, dusty twang to this one. Kind of a playful tune set to some contrasting lyrics. (3:24)
4. Slower tempo with upright bass, emotive backing vocals. (3:01)
*5. Dark piano and sinister keyboards with some light, simple percussion, vocals are compelling. (2:24)
6. Country. Electric guitar imitates slide steel; harmonies and melody are direct and sweet. (2:52)
7. Some sort of turn on a tango, accordion, clapper percussion, forceful vocals; I don’t like it that much. (3:51)
*8. Lonely harmonica, strong lyrics; some forlorn Neil Young for ya. (2:43)
9. Piano and very present cello, darker one but still a sense of forward, upbeat guitar. (3:01)
10. Warbly, weird horns, absurdist, bizarre feel to this one, ironic vocals? (2:02)
