Epic Black Metal from the Olympia, WA/Cascadia region. (hence the play on words in the title). Evoking images of woods, mountains and fog and the coldness. (Similar to their Norwegian & predecessors). Regardless of the ideology vs. hype vs. music debate they still play from their hearts and ain’t a lame marketing machine (see: Eyes of Noctum). Wolves are still challenging their listeners whether or not this is “true” Black Metal or not there’s should be room enough within its confines for something this good.
(((((1))))) Fast, blazing to warm toned, steady and at times doomy.. Clangy drums/cymbals. Vocally not too different from the chaotic first wave of emo (read: the real stuff) mixed with Ishann from Emperor.
(((((((2))))))) Noisey intro then awesome epic tune. Fairly “typical” of WittR but with a nice slow fade that has hints of martial industrial and dark ambient.
(((((3))))) Slow intro of Northwestern rain gently falling, fast occasionally majestic strumming guitars with raspy but at time understandable vocals and sputtering drums & keyboards. Airy drone in the middle then back to the heavy stuff. Drags a little but overall excellent.
((((((4))))))) More “typical” WittR style BM with the fast to middle paced cyclical riffing, cymbal sputtering drumming. A nice “taking a musical journey” feeling. You can practically see the rain pissing down a bunch of pines. Real pretty sound in the last 3 or so minutes.
