Califone/ All My Friends Are Funeral Singers
Indie folk rock with experimental twist. Sounds just like their other albums, in a good way, Tim Rutili sings just as soft and ragged as he always has. not songs to sing along to, in a great way. this album is a companion to a feature-length film of the same title, which the band will present and accompany live during their tour this year. FCC CLEAN. I love them all, but try 1, 4, 9, 10, 14
1.*** unique dry, brooding opening track, same mélange of strange sounds they have had on old records, but seems more pronounced here, piano chords later, great spaced-out beat 2. charming, raw, upbeat 3. slower, organic acoustic guitar and light percussion 4.*** mellow warm acoustic guitar, really pretty, muted spoken words 5. short track funky drumbeat skipping sounds 6. rambling fiddle-backed track varied percussion, nice guitar solo at end 7. upbeat dry guitar, thumping kick bass, claps, screeching feedback, upbeat for califone 8. quieter, charming track in its subtleties 9. **slower, piano, light percussion, tinkly steel drum, strings 10.*** relaxed, sparse strumming over raw, soft percussion, soft bassy horns 11. **chime-like tinkles, then launches into organic country-folk-bluegrass-esque sound, raw vocals 12. slow, deeper chords, mellow and relaxed, turns into slow ballad track brooding, tinkling melodies in back, words 13. shorter, experimental instrumental track, 14. ***slow, pretty, acoustic and thoughtful, experimental beats and sounds towards end 15. sounds like great, classic califone, mid-tempo contemplative, rough
