Funeral Dawn

Blasting but very dynamic Swedish Black Metal. The dynamics have come from the (few albums ago) addition of vocalist Mortuus, aka: Daniel Rosten (from the strange but awesome Funeral Mist). That said, this isn’t all 1000 mph blasts like they were once known for. The pacing makes them much more interesting than their earlier years. The stomp of “Funeral Dawn” adds a new dimension to what’s capable within the general Black Metal framework. Lyrically it’s more of the “using the Bible to prove it’s backwardness” similar to the Orthodox Black Metal of Funeral Mist, Deathspell Omega and Watain.

(((((1))))) Slow dark ambient, then drum-heavy & blasting Black Metal. Drums sound unfortunately a little “triggery” but vocally Morttus & the guitar play is top notch.
(((((2))))) Oddly industrial rock tempo mixed with modern Black Meta. Very repetitive but –it works brilliantly. Stomping tempo and locked in guitar tone
(((((((3)))))) Mortuus spewing up vocal bile like so few can. Wild, zig-zag tempos and bombastic low end.
(((((4)))) Interlude with bells o’ doom, distorted evil vocals, slowly strummed guitars.
((((((((5))))))) Insane speed and screams, wild guitars. Nice triumpherant middle part Trippy bass at the end. ((((((6))))) Speedy BM with off-kilter tempo and plenty of spiraling tremolo riffs and “typical Marduk-ian” triumpherant breaks. Crazy vocals that will freeze the Pope’s soul on impact. Extra points for the line “vomiting vacuum”.
((((((7))))) Slow, steady and burgeoning mixing Doom & Heavy Metal riffing and more diabolic vocals. Good bass work and drumming. Funny that he sings “yoys of war” not “joys of war”.
((((((8)))))) Spindly riff then blasting with dramatic, over-the-top vocals. The fast-to-fastER blasts are a nice touch as is the “hell & brimstone” preacher sample.
(((((((9))))))) Slow guitar intro into whirlwind super-blasting Black Metal with a great chorus and a super HEAVY riff ride at 1:41. Kicks mucho ass! “As fire sharpens...flesssssh!”
(((((10)))) Drum & bass intro with huge, anticipatory, moody Heavy/Black Metal sound. Fantastic guitar work.
Ends with extreme vocal spew.
