A bunch of crazed Belgians mixing Black Metal (mostly in the Flemish sung vocals and not many other places), jazz/improv, jammy psych and prog. Lyrically they’ve often written about subjects ranging from carrots, beer, midgets and now dogs (in Flemish hond = dog).
Uneasy listening for sure but a fun and interesting journey they take you on-that’s for sure. The only band remotely close would be the Norwegians Ved Buendes Ende and Fluerty but both of them sound rather normal compared to the 9.5% alcohol fueled weirdness that is Lugubrum.
(((((1))))) Very odd metered, long track of Blackend Metal & jazzy prog. Sickend vocals, raw production/playing but fairly technical and unpredictable. Very jazzy & psych but very crazy near the end.
(((2))) Standard metallic riffing with sputtering drums. More odd metered stuff with tortured vocals and some cool rockin’ breaks, then tons of fast jazzy drumming and random guitar parts & more growling. A little TOO weird for it’s own good.
(((((3))))) Accordian, a slow metallic riff & saxophone. Completely mental vocals. Then fast very spastic Black Metal oddness stuck into a bunch of jazzy bits. Pure madness!
((((4)))) Accordian and African percussion (!) then some bassy thing (sounds like a tribal instrument), light sax. Prog parts and more crazy vocals. Eventually gets back to fairly regular but kinda spooky Black Metal.
