Fans of John Fahey might want to check out this acoustic guitar centered stuff. I may be reading too much into this because I suspect that its really just “normal” folky/worldy guitar centered stuff and that this pair are fairly straight (who would nonetheless appreciate the compliment of being likened to Fahey). But theres something about this that seems fun and slightly off the edge of the table if 100% unintentionally. Really great acoustic guitar/banjo playing with subtle percussion in the form of traditional world instruments. This would work in a World set, a Blues set, and even thrown in as a cool segue in an “indie rock” or noise set, right in there with the Swans or Mark Kozelik (maybe tracks 8, 14 or 4, i.e. the brief ones). Found this languishing on the review shelf.

1) pleasant chill guitar intro then a slightly carribean feel when backups and subtle percussion joins, fairly normal stuff that could qualify as world, folk, AAA fare
2) upbeat happy feel guitar playing, like steve martin with his banjo
3) upbeat with singing
4) brief, folky 5)pleasant banjo/guitar duet, melodic
6) banjo/dobro+guitar, simple pleasant and right on, takes a bit to veer into what it is: a cover of Tequila
7) 12 bar blues with the cool drum thing, dig it!!
8) really brief banjo/perc, would make a killer little segue in ANY set
9) melodic and songlike, choral, upbeat, pretty
10) upbeat and pleasant, great playing and great feeling, especially when he hits a fuzz box toward the end and it all has a warm overdriven noise feel (ahhh, theres the Fahey reference!!!)
11) keeps the rhythm of the prior track going right into a cheery take on “Tennessee Stud”
12) great if unfamiliar take on “Suicide is Painless” (more familiar as the theme to M*A*S*H), dark yet slightly cheery as it should be
13) irish folky feel
14) another very brief segue: ah yes, a take on the theme to Woody Woodpecker, undeniably jingo Reinhardt influenced, but with the middle eastern percussion then ends on an orchestrated single note, wow!
