CORDÂME: Migration
Malasartes Musique, 2009
WORLD JAZZ – Gorgeous caravan music, rich with exotic mystery. Basically a string quartet plus percussion, this group has a lush, wondrous “magic carpet” sound that catches the breeze and takes flight.
* * * * * | Fo’s Picks: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13
1. 6:31 – relaxed groove, nighttime in the desert: lush violin & guitar breaks
2. 4:55 – quick pulse, Spanish/North African blend: solos give it flight
3. 4:41 – soft feel: airy guitar and moody cello over light, breezy percussion
4. 4:50 – catchy theme, violin and percussion have a real spark here
5. 5:08 – dreamlike: delicate strings tiptoe thru shimmering vibraphone gauze
6. 4:19 – sweeps gracefully over deepening percussion
7. 7:27 – achingly slow and very sensuous; sexy desert music
8. 3:35 – upbeat, gliding with a middle-eastern feel; nice guitar work
9. 6:04 – cinematic: intrigue in the casbah, a chase down narrow alleyways
10. 8:47 – very slow intro, a gradual gathering; a long journey by moonlight
11. 4:44 – slow and dignified; showcase for some expressive bass work
12. 3:24 – mid/uptempo, with more of an edge than the other tracks
13. 3:36 – calm, spiritual drone-chant sound: bass makes a soft statement
