A mostly mainstream, piano-trio session, but the piano is Myra Melford, so you've got some flippant free jazz in the soloing. Mostly melodic jazz composing in a straightforward vein, but with some different angles -- 2 and 5 get experimental; 6 and 7 offer new, catchy sounds.
Allison Miller -- drums
Myra Melford -- piano
Todd Sickafoose -- bass
with Jenny Scheinman -- violin (6)
1- Dramatic in a contemporary-jazz way. Breezy piano chords. Interesting, mysterious fadeout
2- Sparse, echoey. Finally breaks into a bopping second half.
3- Sneaky pitter-patter theme; a cool-handed mid/fast. Nice bluesy touches on piano.
4- Soft, gentle, nostalgic. A quiet, pretty one. Melodic bass solo.
5- Myra Melford composition: Partly abstract, with a crazed piano solo, then a quiet bass solo.
6- Folky & cute (maybe too cute). Quiet chugging start, nifty drum solo. Very Americana; makes you think of trains.
7- A touch of funky swing. Mid/fast. Piano solo gets into some staggered key-slapping, kinda out there
8- Peaceful and floating, very nighttime even though it builds some intensity.
