Mexican Dubwiser presents Sonidos de Hoy y de Siempre

Cumbiamuffin meets club dub – from Monterrey, Mexico by way of LA. Mexican Dubwiser is a radio and club DJ, and these are some of his mashups and remixes. I’ve been needing me one helluva cumbiamuffin fix, so this is right on time.
FCCs on track 1. All great – I like 5, 10, 13, 14 best.
1. 3:38 FCC: “shit” x 2 ***testing intro, then downtempo swingy cumbiamuffin with a bit of male toasting and female hip hop vocals in English.
2. 4:05 ***very downtempo electronic cumbia with lots of keyboards. Club cumbia? I guess he’s calling it CumbiaStep. Ok!
3. 4:48 ***swingy syncopated funk with cumbia backbeat and Mexican horns. Very traditional style vocals.
4. 3:31 ****very downtempo cumbiamuffin with vocal to suit. Flows into next track.
5. 4:00 *****downtempo cumbiamuffin with a reggae beat, dubwise. Strongly reminiscent of El Gran Silencio, whom I LOVE.
6. 3:04 ****wind blows, dogs bark, cowbell starts… cumbia in a dubstorm! Instrumental – very unusual.
7. 3:03 ****scratch ‘n’ cumbia instrumental. Midtempo, way groovy.
8. 3:24 ***rather heavy plodding beat, reggaeton vocals.
9. 3:48 ****midtempo cumbia with electronic chimes – dubby yet jolly instrumental. Cumbiamuffin goes to the circus.
10. 4:06 *****almost uptempo scratch ‘n’ cumbia with (rather lewd) hip hop vocals.
11. 3:04 ***rather downtempo, very traditional sound for the most part.
12. 3:53 ***electronic club dub, sounds like a train… A train with electronic blats and scronches.
13. 3:27 *****uptempo (mostly) instrumental cumbiamuffin.
14. 6:51 *****midtempo very swingy cumbiamuffin with clinky things.
15. 4:10 ****downtempo club cumbia remix of a Kinky hit (in English), with lots of bass.
16. 5:01 *repeated vocal snippets (with vocoder), uptempo club groove. Not as original or interesting as the other tracks.
