Twangy, longing, sad Americana/folk. Very distinctive female voice that’s a little rough around the edges centered, up front in the mix with some lush strings. Melancholy, mopey feeling throughout, but also very mature. Not much percussion; organic compositions around stringed instruments, upright bass. I’ve listened to this a few times, and I do have to say that it gets better with every listen – it’s passionate, sweet, and genuine. Recommended for fans of Paula Frazer, Rosanne Cash. No FCCs.
1. Atmospheric intro with lush, delicate, shaky string work, reverser effects, simple guitar arpeggio and vocals come in… sort of fades into 2. (1:45)
2. Traditional folk feel, slow, yearning. (3:46)
3. More upbeat guitar part with some tuned percussion and syncopated strings, but still (2:14)
*4. Simplistic drum machine and keys frame the most emotional song on here; great, passionate vocals and not as kitschy as it may sound with a drum machine. (2:44)
*5. More yearning minor chords, “you could knock me down with a feather,” strings tug at the heart. (3:45)
6. Shakers, smooth backing vocals, more poppy with a little colorful riff repeated. (2:41)
7. Bittersweet duet with great lyrics again; starts slow with acoustic guitar and upright bass. (3:27)
