Has this been sitting on the review shelf for months??? What the !@#$%@#?? If you just want the same old stuff play everything else. If you want your entire body and soul to be moved like ya never known, then play The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band. From the hills of southern Indiana, it’s Peyton (with a country-crazed voice), wife Breezy, and distant cousin Aaron ‘Cuz’ Persinger playing, what else? Bottleneck slide, washboard and five gallon buckets. It’s Mississippi-trance (a la R.L. Burnside), gut-bucket blues (a la Portland, OR’s Hillstomp), country blues (a la Charley Patton). But they’ve got their own thing going on as well, like insane slide work, driving backbeat, and crazed and beautiful lyrics. Have fun with this one. No FCC’s.

*My Favorites*: Ever dang one.

1. (3:15) Mid / Fast. Kick-ass slide opens this country blues rocker. Driving as all get-out, if this don’t make you move, you best check to see if you have a pulse.
2. (3:15) Mid. Marching drum, harmonica opener. It’s a marching band / country / blues seanced delight. Watch out, that female vocal jumps in at ya, then it’s over.
3. (4:29) Mid / Fast. Mississippi-trance blues gets rocking. Clapping hands and slide and drum and stompin’ feet will surely set you free. ‘If You’re Happy And You Know It’ take off. Blissful and beautiful. Bitchin’.
4. (3:10) Mid. Slide, tambourine, kick drum, trance. Deep blues, country-fied.
5. (3:29) Fast. A bit of Beat Farmers on speed, more country blues. Driving, get up ‘n’ groove. Lots of start/stop phrases. About inflation and depression.
6. (3:35) Mid / Fast. Fast, plodding drumming, insane slide. Almost a sing-a-long, but too damn good for that. About what goes around.
7. (2:34) Fast. Another driving number ‘bout a man and his woman goin’ down to the creek. Killer wails from Peyton and great female backing vocals.
8. (3:16) Slow / Mid. A marching band number, with washboard. Beautious guitar work.
9. (3:57) Mid / Fast. Sparse, spaghetti western feel to start, then slowly increases in tempo. Train song that takes on that increasing train gait. Ominous and moody. Freaky vocal delivery. Another kick ass song.
10. (3:02) Slow / Mid. A bit different. A twisted country sound, with twisted lyrics - lock your doors, kids! Sparse and plodding.
11. (2:41) Fast. Insane guitar. Lyrics delivered fast, about stealing a chicken from the Ft. Wayne Zoo. Vocals mimicking the guitar - frickin’ cool.
12. (2;53) Mid. Song about getting by. A lot of room in the music, kinda sparse compared to the rest of the album. Hand claps and vocals to end.
13. (2;45) Fast. Demented slide guitar, call and response ‘Two Bottles Of Wine’.
14. (2:04) Mid. Echoey vocals and guitar solo. Sparse and sweet. Great song to end the album and a set.
