Sarah Jaffe
Suburban Nature
Kirtland Records
Singer-songwriter from Texas, signed to Kirtland Records. She "shares the same dusky vocal tones as Lightning Dust's Amber Webber with a delivery wavering between hushed melancholy & a vigorous, nimble falsetto." Think Lou Barlow, Norah Jones, Midlake--all artists she's toured with. She writes "beautiful Appalachia melodies with country storytelling sensibilities." Think Feist. Think dark. Think honest. All sparse, simple, with acoustic guitar and vocals as the focus.
FCC: 10 Try: 3, 1, 4
*1) D, low-fi, deep wails & ballad, falsetto oohing, punctured by strumming
2) M-D, feist-ish "Brandy Alexander"
**3) M, Pop-folk-licious, catchy driving in the car with the wind blowing
*4) D, strings & low melancholy ballad with soaring vocals
5) D, whiny, acoustic hills, steady drums becomes softer
6) D, sparse, soft guitar, slow & strings
7) M, beautiful guitar, sweeps in later with strings
8) D, Pt. 1, sparse vox and guitar, really quiet, light plucking, like a live performance
9) D, Deep bass strings, eery haunted
10) FCC : spells out B-U-L-L S-H-I-T
11) D, sparse song with beautiful finger-picking guitar, singing into an empty cave, dark
12)U, train-rhythm guitar-strumming
13)U, thickly percussive song, a little bluegrass influence, very Feist!
