Mostly amped-up singer-songwriter rock with a nice palette of folk, country, and pop inflections, much like his fellow Bloodshot Records veteran Alejandro Escovedo. Clever songwriting throughout, nice guitar, solid backing band. Start with 6, 8, 11. FCC safe. – Andy
*1 - Few seconds of organ fade-in; upbeat and building, with rapid strings of surreal descriptors
2 - Mid-tempo, mellow singer-songwriter confessional
3 - Sweet, delicate country love song with pretty lap steel and lulling piano
*4 - Menacing rock of varying intensities; nice stomp-conducive opening riff
*5 - Dylanesque folk, just voice and acoustic, narrating lovelorn suicide contemplation; impressive songwriting, but uncomfortably heavy subject-wise
**6 - Rock intro with big guitar; mid-tempo and dreamy with rock passages
7 - Mid-tempo, sad country rock
**8 - Firm rock with a 90's alternative feel, nice doubled-up vocals
*9 - Fun rockabilly, uses a halloween party for clever name-drops
10 - Snarling guitar rock; watch out for extra spurt of noise after fade out at end
**11 - Endearingly strange Dylan-folk with weird, bouncy pop instrumentation; this would be the "Brick track"
*12 - Wistful grunge/pop about Sonic Youth, general 90's nostalgia; Eddie Vedder vox
13 - Vocal showcase; sparse, deliberate start with nice pickup; simple, confessional songwriting
14 - Instrumental rock extension of track 13, ends with ambient crowd noise
