One of the two best records I've discovered reviewing here. Alt-country meets slowcore, balancing a fun couple of rowdier moments with gorgeous, enthralling slow rock tracks. Subtly piercing male vocals like Scott McCaughey of the Minus 5 blended with Jay Farrar of Son Volt. Great variety of stuff, great arrangements, play the hell out of it. Everything is fantastic and my slight preferences keep changing, but I guess start with 1 or 5 if you're here for alt-country and 9 for slowcore or indie. FCC safe. RIYL Minus 5, Red House Painters, Band of Horses.
Also, check out a great St. Louis band called Magnolia Summer if you like this. –Andy
**1 - (2:30) bouncy up-tempo alt-country with arresting guitar effects
2 - (2:42) bright, midtempo, lush wanderer
*3 - (2:32) fast, sounds like a fleshed-out and twangier Mountain Goats
*4 - (2:54) big folky power-pop with swampy reverbed-guitar bed
**5 - (5:03) epic alt-country ballad with extended build-up
*6 - (3:42) slow twangy indie rock, like Band of Horses in their sadder moments
*7 - (4:46) midtempo rock and roll; Meat Puppets noisy guitar jam to end
8 - (4:52) slow and sprawling rock
**9 - (4:53) slow, rolling, anthemic, builds to huge noisy catharsis
10 - (4:15) slow indie rock; sudden shifts from quiet to loud; great guitar tone
