Wheels on Fire
Cherry Bomb 7" EP

33rpm - need adapter!!!
(it says 45 on the record... don't do it!)
Wheels on Fire plays happy, warm, lo-fi pop tunes with a jangly guitar. M vox are Clash-like. Good for hanging around the firepit, bouncing around the crowded, humid, dirty warehouse spaces they undoubtedly play. The EP has a "theme"- meet someone at a party, broken-up and happy, broken-up and melancholy (aka rockabilly-esque), contemplation and letting go/moving on.
a1. "black wave" ~3:18 mid-fast. fun dance party song. basic lo-fi e-guitar chords which are sometimes jangly. m vox are delivered urgently and with confidence, if muffled (could just be the headset or library turntable). fun "oOoOoOhhh"s during the choruses. lyrics somewhat non-sensical. basic pop song structure. good times.
a2. "broken up" ~2:25 mid-fast. another foot-stomper. has more of a 70s/vintage feel. fun background organs. basic e-guitar that rocks out johnny-be-good style between verses. the typical story that never gets old: new to the big city, met someone and had fun... then they broke up and he's happy about it and ready to go out and party.
b1. "cherry bomb" ~3:33 slow. kinda plodding. has more of a OC rockabilly feel, if slower. he doesn't sound as happy about the breakup here. m vox waver between scratchy and falsetto. bigger e-guitar than the other songs. drummer hits hard. fun harmonizing toward end. i wanted to like this but it sounded a bit too high school "battle of the bands" for me... your mileage may vary.
b2. "go give yer love away"~2:03 mid. upbeat, stripped down sorta pop-punk. basic e-guitar chords and a little jangle. rhythmic vox delivery. percussion via tambourine and hand claps.
