A compilation of unreleased material (recorded from 2007 to 2010) by Portland’s ambient/psychedelic mastermind White Rainbow. This is a digital version of a cassette put out by Gnar Tapes (Lucky Dragons, Yacht, Rob Walmart, The Woolen Men, etc.) so you know it’s going to be good. Most songs are lengthy sweet syrupy daytrips into the unknown. White Rainbows has been producing music for over 20 years, and is the Father of “Nu-New-Age.” Highly recommended to any fan of psychedelic, ambient, drone, or yes…bladerunnercore. One of my all-time favorite artists. ALL TRACKS ARE FCC CLEAN
1. Soft with tinkling electronic elements, and backyard windchimes gently ringing in the calm before the storm. (3:52)
2. A bit more epic with a slow crescendo of static and gently acoustic guitar. (4:32)
3. A collection of echoed vocal harmonies. (1:09)
4. Shimmery and a bit noisy. True to its title “Darker Drift.” (7:52)
5. Distorted merry-go-round field recordings, strange electronic beeps. (0:46)
6. Aphex Twin Drum n’ Bass with lots of sandblaster bursts of static. Reminds me of the live recordings of ROTFLOL. (5:26)
7. Slow with lots of turbulence and static. Scattered handclaps and subtle echoed vocals. (11:24)
8. Slow and gentle with chopped up acoustic guitar. (13:26)
9. Dark and frantic with lots of tabla drum beats. Haunting. (7:07)
10. Upper stratosphere blissout. (5:51)
11. A gentle landscape of tinkling synth. Excellent. Is this real life? (6:33)
12. Buzzy building ambience. Faint jungle noises.
