Heavy on electric guitar (also with a good deal of drone), this album is a more fuller sounding effort from Vangaalen’s previous work. There’s some Stone Roses and post-punk type stuff going on here with instrumentation of guitar, drums, bass, harmonica, a horn and, possibly, a glockenspiel. Good stuff. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 1, 4, 5, 6, 8.
1. *(2:27) Mid. Marching drum with marching guitar. Vocals stretched out. Anthemic sound.
2. (4:28) Mid. Guitar notes like a plodding voice. Slower, steady drumbeat. Echoey vocals. Spacey, droning change about halfway through, then back again. Drone ending.
3. (3:16) Mid / Fast. Drone beginning, then energetic, upbeat, slightly poppy guitar-led jaunt.
4. *(2:45) Slow / Mid. Dreamy with echoey vocal. Slow drumbeat, glockenspiel ?, harmonica.
5. *(3:11) Slow / Mid. Stripped-down acoustic guitar, whistling. Song about his wife. Very nicely done.
6. *(4:30) Mid / Fast. Drone start, then hyper guitar and drumbeat with brief elctronica type stuff in the back. Killer.
7. (4:08) Mid. Ominous, droney, electro, plodding beat.
8. *(2:59) Mid / Fast. Alternating faster, slower, then faster beat. Song about a policeman.
9. (2:55) Mid. Video game sounds intro, mashup of big noise, crunchy guitar, drone, sparse, back to video game.
10. (2:46) Slow / Mid. Hollow mood, depressor, sparse with guitar, vocal. Then dramatic change with 1:18 remaining of flute or clarinet, guitar. Trippy.
11. (4:25) Slow / Mid. Guitar intro, then vocal and drum. Very sparse with marching drum, gets fuller near the end.
12. (2:05) Mid. Ukelele-led tongue-in-cheek song about ‘shaving my pussy’.
