Strong, emotional indie-guitar-rock. Sophomore album from this young, highly technical band - more aggressive and less lofty, if also less subtle, than their first release. Operatic emo-pop vocals fit in strikingly well alongside often creative guitar walls. In the same progressive indie camp as Wye Oak, The Joy Formidable; big influences are …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, The Wrens. Start with 3, 7; FCC 4. –Andy
1 - (8:32) big chaotic opener; soaring pop vocal lines and long instrumental sections
2 - (2:36) quick and darkly Shins-y in the jangly guitar line and vox delivery
**3 - (3:01) fast and driving with some strong Dino Jr guitar riffs
4 - FCC 'fuck', 'shit' (4:13) mid, emotional
*5 - (4:52) mid, upbeat, dynamic, lots of cool instrumentals; blends into 6
*6 - (3:13) mid, powerful, theatrical, elements of Bends-era Radiohead
**7 - (2:08) instrumental until 1:30; noisy, almost MBV-esque guit. riffs, grunge vox line
8 - (2:55) straightforward, solid indie rock
*9 - (3:29) fast, triumphant, striking guitar/piano interplay on chorus
10 - (4:19) slower dramatic album piece into loud, chaotic stretches; screamy finish.
