ZRU VOGUE "Eleven Eyes" -- Cool rhythmic effects. Interesting sounds. International feelings. Diverse styles. Overall, quite an unusual but pleasant listen.
Faves: 9, 6, 7, 1, 3, 5, -- Sunshine, September 2011
***** 1) Sharpen Your Wings (1:59) -- Bellydance sound. Cool groove. Instrumental.
*** 2) Charming (4:30) -- "Charming, Likable, Delightful" -- lyrics! Then talks about committing suicide. Bizarre philosophical "discussion" . . . with good instrumentation.
***** 3) Dubious (Zudo Nomi) (3:32) -- Middle Eastern rhythms. Great sound effects. Whispery, faint background vocals. Essentially instrumental.
**** 4) The Visitor (3:13) -- Explosion, with bamboo flute, and sitar? Then light, African style drumming. Surreal, almost magical feel. Birds. Strange background vox, almost like listening in to telephone conversation. Essentially Instrumental.
***** 5) The Awakening (4:17) - Classical piano opening. Tinkly bell. Light handrums. Very mystical. Picture lots of crystals and chimes. Female chanting vocals. Then electric guitar!
***** 6) Another Near Future (3:42) - Rollicking, blippy start, with strange spoken vocals. Then groovin' beat. Swirly. Makes you dance and/or air-drum.
***** 7) Yes = No (4:02) -- Drums!!! Cool groove. Odd vox. Vibes.
**** 8) Absinthe and Seine (4:31) - Sounds like happy children's voices. Male French spoken vox. Tripping on Absinthe, while walking along River Seine in Paris. Gets rather peculiar! Whole mood shifts halfway thru. . . Strange lyrics! Interesting beatz.
***** 9) Elongated Strange (6:26) - African chanting with hand drums. Rhythms pick up to moving groove. Then almost jazzy, bluesy electric guitar. Halfway through "normal" male vocals,"It's alright to be strange" . . . with continual cool beatz. Air-drumming!
**** 10) See Thru Head (3:10) -- Electric guitar and bass. Groovin' bassline. Eery, spoken male vocals.
*** 11) Times Are Hard for the Dreamers (4:39) - First, drums . . . then almost sounds like symphonic violin. Odd male vocals.
