GREEN DOOR - Old School rock'n'roll with gruff male vocals. Ominous harmonies. Good guitar work. Sound effects. Somewhat reminiscent of Animals.
Faves: 5, 3 , 7, 10 -- Sunshine, September 2011
** 1) Dark Highway (6:41) - Cool instrumental rhythm, then Old School rock'n'roll feel with apropos male vocals.
* 2) Revolver (7:21) -- Garagey, washboard sound, then mid-tempo oooh-oooh vocals. Kind of la-la.
*** 3) Leviticus (3:51) - Bolero guitar strums with rattlesnake sound effects. Rolling rhythm.
* 4) Buffalo Son (5:23) - Uptempo rocker. Gets repetitive and redundant. Then changes pace into more reflective riffs.
*** 5) Nessuno Ritorna (4:56) - Cool opening with rolling cymbals. Slower paced. Gets louder and more forceful with faster galloping momentum. Mostly just background vocals.
** 6) The Door (5:40) -- Acoustic arpeggios, then drums and amp. Eery vocals. Tells a story.
*** 7) Speaks With No Words (6:07) - Slow,silent start. Storm looming. Almost sounds like Japanese Taiko or Native American drums. Swirly sound effects. Gets a little sunnier. Essentially instrumental.
** 8) Hole In The Wall (3:37) - Basic rock rhythm, with tambourine. Lopes along. Vocal chorus.
* 9) Death Valley (6:08) - Acoustic strumming . . . then amplifies. Almost like "House of the Rising Sun".
*** 10) The Wayward (9:02) - Sunset. Beautiful classical guitar work at start. Then eery vocals and louder, more powerful sound. Tells a long story. Tempo slows to plodding instrumental, two thirds of way through.
