Ambient/drone/experimental
This five-hour behemoth makes Stars of the Lid look concise. Most of this music works with a common palette of soft, melancholy, and dark synthesized sounds. The recording hiss that cuts in and out during songs adds to the home-recorded feel. Music for ill-lighted places. Recommended particularly for sound-beds and the late night set. NOTE: these pieces tend to end abruptly, so be ready to fade them out manually. Favorites: 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 1-6, 2-4, 2-5, 4-1, 5-2. No FCCs.
Disc 1
1. *(1-1)(7:05)—Serene, warm drones.
2. *(1-2)(13:45)—Deep, aggressive, darkly beautiful drones. Music for an atmospheric horror film.
3. (1-3)(9:18)—Sounds like a few woozy old video game tones slowed down and repeated for nine minutes.
4. *(1-4)(8:20)—Soft, pretty, meandering.
5. (1-5)(7:51)—Lots of soft, dissonant drones flitting in and out.
6. *(1-6)(11:12)—Tinny static that sounds like it’s coming a deep, dark well. Dissonant drones.
Disc 2
7. (2-1)(5:05)—Soft, synthesized, flute-like sounds.
8. (2-2)(8:47)—Melancholy, mysterious drones.
9. (2-3)(7:16)—Dark, swirling. Nausea in a dream.
10. *(2-4)(7:38)—Pretty like standing in the shadow under a tree on a windy day.
11. *(2-5)(14:01)—Eerie bells and drones. The soundtrack to those moments when you think something’s behind you.
12. (2-6)(20:05)—One ocean-floor-deep drone.
Disc 3
13. (3-1)(11:13)—Bizarrely, this is exactly the same track as 1-6. See above.
14. (3-2)(10:20)—Glitchy drones and aquatic field recordings.
15. (3-3)(37:37)—Bells chiming underwater. If you play this, you and your listeners will get very, very sleepy.
Disc 4
16. *(4-1)(7:44)—Nocturnal, autumnal, lush, eerie, beautiful.
17. (4-2)(8:14)—Stop-and-go drones. Dracula’s coming to get you!
18. (4-3)(8:33)—Walking through tunnels. A calm, humming drone.
19. (4-4)(12:43)—Martians taking over the transmitter.
20. (4-5)(18:08)—Transmissions from the howling void of outer space.
Disc 5
21. (5-1)(14:45)—A consistent, deep drone. Pinging synth sounds.
22. *(5-2)(11:16)—A loop of soft, slowly elevating drones. Chimes.
23. (5-3)(9:00)—Synthesized, muddy cymbal crashes. Drones and bells.
24. (5-4)(8:20)—This is exactly the same track as 1-4. See above.
25. (5-5)(8:20)—Looped, cut-up voices. Faint drones.
26. (5-6)(5:05)—This is exactly the same track as 2-1. See above.
27. (5-7)(3:31)—Not on the tracklist. Spaceships firing laser beams at the transmitter.
