Celestial Electric is the result of a partnership between London multi- instrumentalist/1960s space-funk devotee Shawn Lee and slick LA vocalist AM. Citing an impressive solo catalog (most recorded under the moniker “Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra”), Lee is something of a pop genius -- stitching together records dug from deep in the crates of 1960s and 1970s lounge funk to make something surprisingly distinct in today’s lo-fi/chillwave-dominated indie scene. With AM’s perfectly suited treble, the duo achieve an extremely enjoyable set of tunes that blurs genres and eras such that without a bit of background it’d be tough to discern its origins. Something very “classic” about the effort on a whole. RIYL Zero 7, Beck, Washed Out. Check out 1, 8, 11, 9, or 6.
