Finders Keepers Records does it again, this time with the first ever issue of Zdenek Liska's original orchestral/electronic score to 'Malá Morská Víla' from 1976, a Czech film adaptation of Hans C. Anderson's 'The Little Mermaid'. Though the label is no stranger to obscuro-oddities, they themselves describe this as “one of the most idiosyncratic and haunting undiscovered scores in the annals of European cinematic history.” Yup. Chilling, evocative, psychedelic... not your Disney “Little Mermaid,” I promise. Overall, an eccentric and orchestral listen, rife with cinematic string arrangements, brass and woodwind highlights, and deep, dark early electronic sounds. No idea what to compare it to... like a trippier, ghostlier, Czech-er Bernard Hermann. Check tracks 11, 9, 17, or 7.
