Swing/Lounge, old/new, horns/electronics. Described as Fatboy Slim meets Henry Mancini, as well as “buoyantly Equivelian” (rather nice turn of phrase, that) – it also sounds a lot like early Pinker Tones to me (which is a GOOD thing.) Duo from NY, each playing about a zillion instruments (especially horns). They are also very silly, indeed. I like everything. Apparently they’re getting played a lot on TV shows I don’t watch…
1. 2:06 ***upbeat midtempo Swing instrunmental with mutes on the horns, somewhere between early big band and French café jazz (a la R Crumb), but with modern electronics.
2. 3:34 ***bit of cockney accent spoken word, then jazzy 50’s-ish cha-cha-mambo, fun lyrics.
3. 2:59 ***horns with mutes, 20’s style sax, almost whispered vocals in fake French, boppy female background vocals. Very silly indeed, but loveable.
4. 3:53 ***bass and electronics, uptempo but relaxed lounge-funk with English-accented spoken word snippet.
5. 3:15 ***VERY silly uptempo chorus and boopy keyboards, cute tenor sax, etc etc etc.
6. 4:16 ***big-ass hip-hop boom-bap with goofy British-accent spoken word and swing horns. Crazy mashup! Utterly infectious.
7. 2:39 ***hyperspeed electronic lounge, way groovy, snap your fingers, yeah baby, mambo!
8. 3:01 ***uptempo boppy lounge groove, made for dancing (and the lyrics encourage showing off.)
9. 2:56 ***relaxed mid-tempo boopy hippy-happy… It’s kinda like the 20’s filtered through the mid-60’s Carnaby-Street Brit-Pop, then filtered again through some modern electronics. Gnarly!
10. 4:03 ***”long” version of the first track – more chances for big fun!
