Franz Liszt (1811-1886) was the first international musical superstar, touring Europe in his teens, and was the Parisian friend of Chopin, Berlioz, Hugo, Dumas, Balzac, Heine and Paganini. A genius and an exceptional showman, a womanizer, he played for the masses and for royalty, inventing the piano concert as we know it today. He was a revolutionary composer, creating new, often technically demanding means of expression in piano music and new forms in orchestral music.
