This reissue, released on cassette by Dark Descent Records, collects an EP and 7” single from an obscure old-school Swedish death metal band, very much in the vein of Nihilist/Entombed, Grave, Dismember, etc. Top-notch production is a perfect example of the Swede style—thick, chugging Boss pedal guitar tone; pummeling, punk-ish drums with hollow-sounding snare and crisp double-bass. It’s great to hear forgotten gems of the 90s unearthed in all their gruesome glory.
RIYL: Swedish death metal, church arson, Ragnar of Ravensfjord, smashing your face into concrete
FCC: 3
((((1)))) Smacks of “Left Hand Path”, maybe with two dozen more riffs and some eerie chanted vox in brief sections
(((((2))))) Stop-start tremolo riff madness, relentless crushing brutality; and then some plodding mid-paced riffs in between add some variety.
(((((3))))) Sick crushing death with some doom influenecs, shows that the Swedes were really into Autopsy. FCC “fuck”
(((4))) Relentless blasphemous thrash, reeks of early Morbid Angel. Commence mosh pit.
(((((((5))))))) Now that’s what I call death metal! Technical harmonies and rhythms, thick guttural rage. Obituary’s second album comes to mind.
(((((((6))))))) Super-fast lightspeed thrash a la Master or Repulsion, alternates with crushing mid-paced riffs and melodic harmonizing interludes
(((7))) First of two tracks with much rawer production; more low and guttural brutality, harmonies not as refined. You can hear a later version of the same song on track 4
((((8)))) Same deal, track 3 is a rerecording.
