Midwestern rawk-n-roll -- specifically, Columbus, OH. Ron House is a true Columbus original, best known for his service in Great Plains and the Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments. This record marks House's return to recording after nearly a decade of relative inactivity following the implosion of TJSA. House's voice remains polarizingly one-of-a-kind -- nasal, whiny, high-pitched. His band is far more proficient -- a crunchy twin guitar attack that runs the gamut from Neil Young / Crazy Horse territory to primal three-chord crunch. And the one recurring theme in the album is a mocking unease with contemporary society... what's not to like?
MOST BREAKS ARE TIGHT -- PAY ATTENTION
FCC - 1.6
1.1 * minor key rager, some breakdown shouting and scorching
1.2 med+ with a slower bridge, trippy/mocking new age lyrics.
1.3 med+, about the omnipresence of iPod earbuds(?)
1.4 med(+), non-descript rock, don't bother
1.5 med, back to the minor key groove, fighting to retain sanity with a solid gtr freakout at the end
1.6 FCC ("shit gaze"), med, mocking the club-going youth of today
2.1 * med/varies, longer, winding, Neil Young-like; cover song, originally by "The Sixth Station" (early 80s private-press christian rock - don't hold it against them)
2.2 med(+) - sounds very much like a left-over TJSA track, straight ahead rawk
2.3 * med(-) - deep guitar psych-burn with cornball lyrics
2.4 med - choogling, almost motorik groove with afterburner guitar and spoken/shouted lyrics
2.5 med+ - stream-of-consciousness sing-song vocals over guitar jam and driving groove
