Good rockin’ times from this five-piece playing some solid r’n’r with elements of zydeco, blues, americana and a bit of soul. They hail from Las Vegas and are lead by accordionist Pete Contino, son of legendary accordionist Dick Contino. They employ instrumentation of guitar, bass, keys, percussion, harmonica, accordion. Mostly originals with a few covers. Features Maria Muldaur on #2. FCC #9.
*My Favorites*: 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13.
1. (4:23) Mid. Steady beat, keyboard breaks, harmonica solo, accordion solo. Solid.
2. *(5:06) Mid. Features Maria Muldaur on vocals. Handclaps, cool percussion, great accordion. Good rollickin’ stuff.
3. *(3:46) Slow / Mid. Mellow deep blues, with nice harmonica, keys.
4. (4:39) Mid. Tom Waits song. A bit different than Tom’s, kind of a gypsy styling, really good groove. Cool percussion, accordion.
5. *(4:30) Mid / Fast. Rockin’ beat with heavy percussion, nice keys, accordion, bass. Jammin’.
6. *(4:50) Slow / Mid. Dirge-ish, with really cool keys, drums, harmonica.
7. *(3:29) Mid. Zydeco styling, killer beat, bass, accordion. Kick ass.
8. *(3:26) Slow. Lieber / Stoller song. Has that Latin flair, sticks on the rims, female backing vocals. Very smooth.
9. (4:06) Mid / Fast. FCC. Upbeat bluesy zydeco with great piano, percussion, slide guitar.
10. *(4;32) Slow / Mid. Soulful dirge with plodding beat, subdued guitar. Gets fuller midway. Nice.
11. (4:46) Mid. Barroom blues groover. Guitar, harmonica, drums, bass. Good stuff.
12. (4:25) Mid. Easy-going bluesy zydeco number with accordion, steady beat, keys.
13. *(3:10) Slow / Mid. Easy-going with some nice mandolin, keys, backing vocals. Nice.
